Out of the many neighborhoods on Staten Island’s North Shore, one of my favorites is St. George. It has all of the qualities of a “hot” neighborhood: an exciting restaurant scene, lively bars, an up-and-coming artist community, locally owned businesses, a great view of lower Manhattan, historic architecture and family attractions- all within steps of the Staten Island Ferry.
With all of these characteristics, there is no question as to why people looking to move to Staten Island look for homes for sale in the St. George area.
The GrowNYC Greenmarket in St. George
Another one of St. George’s “best kept secrets” is the GrowNYC Greenmarket that visits the corner of St. Mark’s Place and Hyatt St. on Saturdays. The St. George Greenmarket offers a wide variety of seasonal fruits and vegetables, flowers, cheese, meat, seafood and baked goods- all organic and all locally grown.
When I visited the Greenmarket last Saturday, I was impressed by the quality of the products, the prices, and the friendliness of the local vendors.
Not only was I able to get some fresh produce, but I was also invited to view a cooking demonstration, and I learned about how to participate in the recycling and composting projects that GrowNYC offers. And, the location of this Greenmarket is perfect- it is a nice walk from the Staten Island Ferry, accessible to anyone living in St. George, and because of the on-site parking, it is an easy trip for any resident of the North Shore.
As a North Shore resident, I appreciate organizations like GrowNYC who are dedicated to providing Staten Islanders with access to fresh, locally grown, organic food products, AND their commitment to education as well. As a Staten Island North Shore realtor, I am excited about yet another opportunity to highlight one of the many benefits of living on the North Shore.
Living in St. George
The St. George Greenmarket is another example of the many things happening on the North Shore of Staten Island that potential home buyers might miss out or are simply unaware of, unless they have a North Shore real estate agent who knows the “ins and outs” of every neighborhood.
As Staten Island’s North Shore Expert , I love showcasing the many unique qualities of each neighborhood to individuals and families looking to move to Staten Island.
So, next time you’re in St. George, be sure to stop by GrowNYC’s St. George Greenmarket. The St. George Greenmarket is open Saturdays from 8am – 2pm until November 23, 2013. Hope to see you there!
