P.S. 59 – The Harbor View School

P.S. 59 Harborview School
PS 59, the Harbor View School: One of Staten Island’s newest North Shore elementary schools is the Harbor View School, located at 300 Richmond Terrace (the former site of St. Peters Girls Elementary and High School). In its first year, PS 59 consists of two kindergarten and two pre-kindergarten classes and will grow a grade per year until it is a full K-5 school. The Harbor View School implements a child-centered, project-based approach to learning, where children develop the skills of investigation, problem-solving, critical thinking, communication, and creativity through hands-on, inquiry-based learning experiences. PS 59 expects students to participate in frequent field trips, and for teachers to work collaboratively with cultural and community organizations in the borough and throughout the city. The school is an “open choice” school, meaning admission is open to families throughout the borough. Pre-K and kindergarten admission is determined by lottery from applications filed. For more information, visit the PS 59 website at www.theharborviewschool.org.
