Staten Island ZOO
Located in the West Brighton section of Staten Island’s North Shore, the Staten Island Zoo is an 8-acre zoo operated by the Staten Island Zoological Society. Currently, the zoo houses over 438 animals of over 206 different species. Among the zoo’s current exhibits is the Children’s Zoo and Kids’ Korral, and a vast collection of snakes and reptiles housed in the zoo’s Serpentarium. The zoo is also the home of Staten Island Chuck, a groundhog who is the official Groundhog Day forecaster for New York City. New attractions to the zoo include the Conservation Carousel and the brand new Amur Leopard habitat. The zoo also houses the horses used by the Parks Department Enforcement Patrol Officers for patrolling the parks and woods of Staten Island.
The Zoo is accessible by public transportation via the S48 and S53 bus routes. For more information, visithttp://www.statenislandzoo.
